Hello, and thanks again for visiting my blog. Today, I wanted to start a series of posts about generating YouTube channel ideas. YouTube is clearly the industry leader in video sharing and many users have turned their small YouTube channels into self sufficient businesses that pay enough income to support their lifestyles.(Pretty awesome, huh?) Problem is: a lot of beginner YouTube look at that success and want to start at the result, not the beginning, and that is a huge mistake! So, the idea here is to get you to the beginning quickly. Generating your first YouTube video ideas for your new channel is the start. What follows is going to be consistent hard work to grow that channel. The good news is: The hardest part is done once you know which direction you’re choosing to go into.
Below, I’ve generated the first 5 good YouTube video ideas of this series to get you started. Once you go through these and make a selection (or the list may start your creative juices flowing and you come up with your own video ideas), the next step is learning how to make a YouTube video. And I don’t mean just the technical aspect, but how to make high quality video ideas for your YouTube channel. I’ve also included a few tips with each suggestion to help you in making the most successful go of creating your YouTube channel. Finally, you’ll see advice on how to incorporate music into your videos. Often, this is one of the trickier parts of making your channel look and feel professional. While it’s pretty easy to recognize 99% of YouTube channels that have massive followings use music, it may not be clear on where to get the music, how to know what you can use, for how long or what’s the best way to use it to get the desired impact. Fortunately for you, I’ve included everything you’ll need to get royalty free music you can use as much as you need. And we’re not talking about the same music everyone else is using, we’re talking premium, exclusive music that’ll help your channel stand apart and get noticed by viewers, potential subscribers and advertising partners.
Generating your first YouTube video ideas for your new channel is the start.

Unboxing Video Channel Idea

For an idea for a YouTube channel that be done by one person: unboxing videos. I’ll be the first to admit: When I first heard there were people who would watch other people open stuff and comment on it, my first thought was “wtf?, why?”. It took some time for me to realize it could be because products are being released all the time, potential consumers often look to YouTubers and their respective YouTube channels to be their personal guinea pigs.
Many of the channels are fueled by sponsors who ultimately want their products in front as many eyes as possible, so buying each and every product won’t be necessary in the long term, as you may get sponsorship opportunities.
Short term, though, it may be wise to review new stuff you’ve maybe recently bought or a friend has recently purchased. You’d get the original packaging, show off what actually comes with a new product, what it looks and feels like and give your first impressions.

Tips for starting an Unboxing YouTube channel:

Choose products you can actually give helpful insight on: If you’re “tech challenged”, I would discourage doing tech unboxings. If you know nothing of a particular subject, it’s OK to let someone else with more expertise tackle it. If you stay in your lane, making videos and coming up with fresh content consistently will be much less of a challenge.

Timing. If some new product has hit the market and is trending, jump on it! Do an unboxing video and you may be able to take advantage of the massive traffic looking for that exact video!
Be you: Everyone can spot a fraud, so don’t try to be funny if you’re not naturally funny, etc.

How to incorporate music.

Unboxing videos lend themselves perfectly to background music. The process of opening a product and explaining in detail what your emotions are, etc. may take a while, so it’s important not to bore your audience. Typically, your actual unboxing should take place in the first 30 seconds of the video, the rest is most likely going to be…talking. The example below used really cool background music to great effect. They constantly changed it so as not become boring and stale. If you need an example of what I’m talking about, check out the video to the right.

Makeup Tutorials on YouTube for Beginners

Everyday more and more tweens are growing up and becoming eligible to buy and wear makeup. I think makeup tutorials can be one of the most popular and profitable YouTube video ideas, but I also think it can be a wildly successful channel if you focus on s specialty, such as tutorials for beginners or tutorials for dark skin, etc,.

There is an endless flow of women who watch and enjoy makeup tutorials and many do it often. You can help them find information ranging from trying to figure out how use makeup properly, to new techniques, or makeup reviews and what to buy.  This is one video idea for a YouTube channel that is both beginner friendly and can be very lucrative.

Quick Tip

Pick a good camera. You have to create high quality images so your viewers can see clearly what you’re doing. Fortunately, most cameras on smartphones produce a high enough quality for you to get started immediately.

Get Good Lighting. One of the biggest secret of the YouTube makeup gurus is adequate lighting. Ring lights are a great way to instantly light up your area and create the crisp look you see in many YouTube makeup tutorials.

How to edit music into your makeup videos

Most viral YouTube videos about makeup make music a “co-star”. Music selection is pretty important here because as you can see from the example provided, the video (with over 15 million views) has both intro music and background music.

This does 2 things: The intro music helps brand the channel. When you hear the music, you know it’s her and that’s golden! The second thing that’s happening here is (even though it’s really low) the background music helps this not turn into a YouTube video with a talking head.
It does wonders to make sure the viewers stay engaged and the content is interesting and static and boring. No need to reinvent the wheel here, 635,000 subs and millions of views on each video is no accident.

Food/Cooking YouTube Channel Idea

Love food or consider yourself a bonafide foodie? If so, then a good YouTube channel idea for your new channel could be a cooking channel. Millions of people go to YouTube daily to get inspiration for their dinner meal prep or just to get new ideas to spice up (pun intended) meal time. Why not be that inspiration?

Also, you can also make money selling recipes. Some viewers appreciate the ability to pay a few bucks and have your recipe in an easy to read, printable format so they can add it to their physical recipes book. Why not assist them by having links or even a website they can go to that will provide them the downloads?

Tips on how to implement this YouTube video idea

Start off with your tried and true recipes. If you’re a foodie, I assume you have a few recipes you have a great deal of confidence in and wouldn’t have an issue showing other exactly how to recreate your masterpiece, right?

Be sure to demonstrate step-by-step how you make the dish! The more detailed and easy to follow, the more viewers will appreciate your tutorials.

Also be sure to detail what ingredients, techniques, or kitchen tools that you use, so viewers can basically copy at home.

How to incorporate music.

One of the great things about cooking channels is that it works even if you yourself are camera shy! In order to pull that off, though, you’ll definitely need music! Whether you want to keep it ultra-fresh (like your recipes) and change up your music in each video or once every 4 videos is totally up to you.

If you have no issues being in front of the camera, then subtle background music would be ideal. The main takeaway is that you’ll need something more than just good recipes and a good personality to create interesting content that viewers are going to want to watch repeatedly. Check out the examples and pay close attention to the role music plays in each.

Start a Travel YouTube Channel

Personally, I watch a LOT of travel channels and these channels are growing more and more in popularity. Do you travel for work? Plan on taking some trips in the near future? Why not take along a vlog camera or use your camera phone to document your travels?
This can be considered a beginner YouTube video idea, but it totally will depend on your ability to travel frequently. Most of your content will depend heavily on (obviously) being able to travel. Travel channel Youtubers to have some of the coolest videos on YouTube. Millions of users flock to YouTube to get advice from where to stay, how to get around new cities to where and what to eat.

Quick Tip

Get ready to edit…a Lot. You only need to share the interesting parts of the trip. Set aside some time to be clear on what sort of travel video(s) you want to make. This way, you’ll save a lot of time, camera battery, and you’ll have a better travel experience.
Keep your video steady. There are plenty of stabilizers on the market (yes, for smartphones as well), use them! The last thing you want to do is have a “Blair Witch Project” version of a travel video that only serves to make your viewers noxious at the sight of your channel, so a good vlogging camera is a must.

How to pick good travel vlog music.

As stated before, travel vlogs tend to be some of the coolest around and that doesn’t stop with music selection. Travel vlogs also tend to amp up the coolness by using a variety of songs for different scenes. Whether they’re time lapse or drone shots, music will enhance your videos and take them from looking (and sounding ) amateurish to professional.
That being said, take a look at one of my personal favorite travel vlogs: Attache’. Every time Alex and Greg upload a video, I’m there! Notice in the examples the use of intro music, as well as, throughout the scenes. It’s used masterfully in the background and foreground.

Men’s Fashion YouTube Channel Idea

Typically, when we think of beauty and fashion, the information is primarily geared toward women. However, there is a growing trend and audience for content curated specifically for men’s fashion.
Whether we want to admit it or not, men have lots of questions when it comes to style: “How should I dress for professional occasions?” “Does this even match?” “What accessories should I wear with this suit?” “What tie should I wear?”. The YouTube video ideas are almost endless for anyone with a keen eye for men’s style.

Tips on how to implement this YouTube video idea

Be consistent. Guys are going to look to you for advice, but they need to know you’re in it for the long haul and not just going to drop them off with no direction or advice. In a fashion niche, (as with most of these ideas) it’s paramount to upload regularly and consistently.
Listen and connect with your subscribers. This is a community you’re building here, so you’re going to have to respond and interact with your followers. Whether it’s answering questions or giving advice, you have to be willing to be the real you and engage!

How to incorporate background music.

Check out the first example to the right (Tim Bryan). See what he’s doing here? You’ll notice, he’s just going about his normal day, but it’s dramatically enhanced by his music choices. The OOTD portion feels totally different than the part where he’s walking to make purchases, which in turn feels totally different than showing the haul. All have the same general vibe, but still unique. really good use of music here and 88,000 subs agree!
The two remaining examples are really good example of different ways to incorporate your music. The second example (Craig Yopp) uses music in a variety of ways. The intro feel like a full fledged music video and from there the remaining footage is backed by cool background music.
The 3rd example (Anthony DelucV) features more of a tradition use, which is intro music and then background music during the commentary to carry the video. Check all of the examples out and pay close attention to how popular men’s fashion vloggers do it!
